Chinese consumers are placing increasing emphasis on product safety, and stationery is no exception. The Guangzhou Stationery & Office Supplies Exhibition showcased a wide variety of high-quality mid-to-high-end stationery products, leaving visitors dazzled.
The 8th Guangzhou International Stationery & Office Supplies Exhibition was held from June 28 to 30, 2023, at the Poly World Trade Center Expo in Guangzhou, with an exhibition area covering 12,000 square meters.
This year’s exhibition highlighted the growing demand for mid-to-high-end stationery among Chinese consumers, indicating significant market potential. Domestic stationery brands are continuously developing mid-to-high-end product lines, with an ever-expanding range of offerings.
Rising Demand for Mid-to-High-End Stationery
At the exhibition, Japanese and German stationery brands drew much attention, most of which focused on mid-to-high-end products. Many domestic Chinese brands are also shifting toward the development of higher-end stationery.
Guangdong Baoke Stationery Co., Ltd. showcased a series of office stationery products, including pencils, whiteboard markers, oil-based pens, and engineering markers. According to Chen Qinjie, the manager of the company’s Guangzhou branch, Baoke specializes in the office stationery market, and the quality of its products is already on par with that of internationally renowned brands.
Chen noted that some internationally recognized stationery manufacturers operate multiple product lines to meet the needs of niche consumers, which reflects their strong research and development capabilities. He emphasized that in recent years, demand for mid-to-high-end stationery among domestic consumers has been steadily increasing. Consumers not only expect aesthetically pleasing designs but also place great importance on product quality, such as durability and material safety. For domestic brands, pursuing the mid-to-high-end market is essential to improving competitiveness.
At its booth, Baoke introduced a liquid chalk marker, an innovative alternative to traditional gypsum chalk. The product’s main feature is its safety and skin-friendly nature. According to the company, the liquid chalk’s tip is resistant to breakage, its writing is easy to erase, and it can be refilled for repeated use. Moreover, the liquid chalk can write on a wide range of smooth, non-porous surfaces such as blackboards, whiteboards, glass, plastic, electronic fluorescent boards, and stone.
Chen also mentioned that the company is expanding its product lines while keeping up with market trends. He noted that the paperless office trend is gaining traction in China, and Baoke is actively developing smart stationery products to meet evolving market demands.
Suzhou Foster Department Store Stationery Co., Ltd. exhibited products from the German brand Schneider at the event. Company representative Lin Yonghui shared similar views on the Chinese stationery market as Chen.
Lin observed that mid-to-high-end stationery is becoming increasingly popular among mainland consumers. As Schneider’s Chinese distributor, his company selects products to represent based on shifts in consumer demand. At this year’s exhibition, they mainly showcased Schneider’s gel pens, rollerball pens, and fountain pens.
According to Lin, all Schneider products are manufactured in Germany with superior quality, making them highly favored by Chinese consumers. For example, the Schneider rollerball pen with a cap design, featured at the exhibition, comes with a large-capacity ink reservoir. This ensures smooth writing without ink leakage, and even if the cap is left off for two to three days, the pen continues to write normally without issues of drying out or ink flow problems caused by air exposure.
